Let this be a warning– “they’re here.”
Took my car for service and got a call from the sales department regarding a quote on the vehicle. So I stopped by and asked for the person I was referred to. He was off so I asked for the person who made the call.
The greeter awkwardly smiled and, for some reason, I asked if it was a robocall–with A.I. It was! The caller answered my questions appropriately and sounded very professional. I did not know it was computer generated.
I cannot tell you why I asked about A.I. because nothing I can put my finger on clued me in. But something instinctual later signaled this for me.
I suspect our brains will either evolve to recognize them outright as a mechanized interactive tools no matter how human they sound, or we will evolve into accepting the full socialization and integration of “C3POs” in our lives.
