Thousands gathered across the country. They laughed and ate together. They even chanted and sang and prayed together. They pulled for their favorite! They donned badges and clothing and colors to proclaim their allegiance. They prepared for battles. They argued the merits and flaws of the chosen. All the while, they knew there would be winners and losers.
They promised their undying affection and allegiance no matter what.
And then it was over.
Some actually cried as they returned to their homes. Some wondered what it would be like to go to work the next day. They were grateful that it was just another workday. Kids went to school. People went grocery shopping. Old ladies gathered for lunch and old men went to play golf. Musicians practiced new songs, The same people waved hello to the familiar joggers in the neighborhood.
It almost seemed like nothing changed after.

And then it was time to start again. The referee’s whistles would start the games. The bands would play. The cheerleaders would shout. The fans would yell. Good ol’ fashioned football weekends brought together people from all walks of life. You see it, don’t you?
All people can, and do, gather and play without hate or violence or degrading others’ humanity and anyone’s inherent rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That’s America.

Remember that on Wednesday, after the vote, when everyone needs to count on their neighbors’ good will!
